Is knee pain a reason to stop squatting?
Usually not. Knee pain often improves by adjusting how you squat, such as depth, tempo, stance and load, rather than stopping. Strong hips and thighs protect the knee, and avoiding all loading tends to make knees weaker.
Stop and get help if the knee locks, gives way, swells after exercise or hurts at rest. Mild discomfort that settles within a day is often manageable.
